Homework
A homework packet will be sent home each Monday with the homework for the week. Homework will be assigned each night. We ask that your child complete the homework on the night it is assigned and not all of it on Monday. The purpose of the homework is to review and reinforce what we have learned in class, so it will be assigned as we cover different topics. Reading is an “assignment” every night. It doesn’t matter if you read to your child, with him/her, or if he/she reads to you. What is important is that they are getting the exposure!
Homework Folders
Your child will bring his/her homework folder home each night and should return it the next morning. There is a “to do” side and a “finished” side. Anything on the finished side, please collect and keep at home. On Monday of every week you will also find a class newsletter, this will give a brief synopsis of what we are doing that week as well as important information and upcoming dates. There is also a weekly paper in your child’s homework folder. This page has a section for homework, behavior/notes, and reading log. The ‘homework’ column will have the homework assignments for each night for the entire week and this will be filled out Monday with the new weekly sheet. The next column is the behavior/notes column. Each afternoon before dismissal, we will color that box with their behavior color of the day and any brief notes we’d like to pass on to you. The last column is the reading log. Here you will write what books you read (if you read multiple, just choose a couple titles) and how long you read (there is no minimum or maximum). You will also notice there is a place for you to initial in the homework and behavior boxes and a signature in the reading log box. Please initial/sign each box each night. We will collect this weekly sheet the following Monday to keep at school, so please send it back after the weekend. We will be checking over the homework and looking for your signatures every morning as the students turn in their homework folders.
